Suicide Prevention and
Self-Harming Course
(Two Days)
Suicide Prevention and Self-Harming Course (One-Day)
Delivered at a training centre or online
This course is designed to meet the unique challenges maritime professionals face. It is a one-of-a-kind course that will equip senior officers (SMT) with the tools needed to react to a mental health crisis or serious mental health incident onboard.
The idea of this training is not to train SMT to be counsellors – this would require a degree level of education. However, it will give the SMT a practical approach to respond if/when a crisis occurs. This protects the crew with mental health problems, the SMT and wider safety of the ship, and the shipping and technical management company that employs the crew.
