ISCA Wellbeing’s Train the Trainer program covers both our one-day Seafarer Mental Health Awareness course for ratings and the additional one-day Mental Health Officer course designed for management-level officers. This equips trainers with the skills and knowledge to effectively deliver these vital courses within their own organisations.

Course Content

OBJECTIVES

Develop Trainer Competence

  • Equip trainers with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to deliver mental health awareness training effectively.

  • Understand adult learning principles and effective training techniques.

  • Learn how to engage seafarers and officers in meaningful discussions about mental health.

Build an Understanding of Seafarer Mental Health

  • Recognise the unique mental health challenges faced by seafarers.

  • Understand the impact of isolation, fatigue, and stress in maritime environments.

  • Gain insight into mental health conditions and early warning signs.

Deliver the Seafarer Mental Health Awareness Course

  • Learn how to teach seafarers practical coping strategies for managing stress and mental health at sea.

  • Provide guidance on accessing support and reducing stigma.

  • Use real-life case studies to enhance learning and relatability.

Deliver the Mental Health Officer Course

  • Train management-level officers to support crew wellbeing and create a mentally healthy work environment.

  • Teach intervention techniques and crisis response strategies.

  • Equip officers with the tools to implement mental health policies on board.

Facilitate Safe and Supportive Learning Environments

  • Handle sensitive topics with care and professionalism.

  • Create an inclusive and non-judgmental training space.

  • Manage group dynamics and address challenges during training sessions.

Evaluate and Adapt Training Approaches
